On the 3rd week of November we have a short vacation because of thanksgiving. On thanksgiving almost all of my family comes over my house, and we have a big feast!  Some things we have for the feast is turkey, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade stuffing, biscuits, cranberries, gravy, and a lot of desert such as pumpkin pie!! This year we are having everyone over at 2:00 P.M and they will probably stay until 9:00 P.M or later.

Here are some of the myths that you might have been hearing about thanksgiving. If someone asked you who had the 1st thanksgiving feast you would probably say the pilgrims right? No, the pilgrimsdid not have the 1st thanksgiving it was the Texans. Also the pilgrims did not wear black or buckles because buckles came out in the 17Thcentury. One more thing is that everyone said the original thanksgiving feast took place on the 4Th Thursday in November, that is a myth it was actually celebrated sometime between September 21st and november 11Th.

Long ago in school they used to physically hit the students with wooden sticks, paddles, and leather belts.  In the 1850s the hickory switch was invented which is a narrowbranch of green wood, often cut by the student in trouble. The wooden paddle was kept within sight, behind the teachers desk. All these devices were used as motivators to all the students, because they knew if they misbehaved they would get hit.

Now in days teachers can no longer hit students. The way they get in trouble now is either detention, expulsion, suspension, or in school suspension. If they misbehave and it is not that bad the student might get privileges taken away or if they have recess they would get 5, 10, or 15 minutes taken off. Things in this year have changed allot, but I think they have changed for the good, because hitting children with wooden items is not nice and it’s abuse.

President-elect Barack Obama, The white house, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC  20500

Dear Mr. President

I am so glad you became president! My family and I are looking forward to see what you are going to do with our country. I can’t believe you made history in presidency.

I think the biggest problem is the economy. I think one of the problems is that are food and clothing are all going up but no one is getting raises in their jobs. It is nice that the gas prices are letting up a little, but I think they just might go back up. Another thing is that tons of stores are closing down which means tons of people are losing their jobs so they won’t be able to pay for every day expenses. All this is the reason I think this is one of the biggest problems today.

The worst thing about the economy is all the stores going out of business. As i know of right now Circuit City and Linens and Things are going out of business. Everyone who works there will have no jobs when they close. If this keeps occurring soon our world will be changed, but not in a good way.

The second thing right after the economy, but still has something to do with it is the gas and oil costs. People cant afford to be going anywhere anymore so that is probably why so many stores are going out of business, and as I said before the gas and oil prices are going down, but still may be expensive if people have big cars, trucks, or SUVs. That brings another thing to mind that people need to get more fuel efficientcars. My family used to have a big car but now we have a prius because of the gas prices and all the driving my mom does. Big vehicles put lots of chemical and pollution in the air. I found out that 10 priuses put out the same about of admissions as 1 big truck!

I hope this letter meant something to you, and have a great time in the white house! My family and I are all looking for a change, and hope you can make them.

Thanks again,

Lacey

In my school we have a red and a blue waste basket looking bins. The red one is for all the paper and the blue one is for the water bottles and other recyclable bottles. There is 1 red bin and 1 blue bin in every room of our school.
